Choral Scholarship Program

Choral Scholarships at St. Thomas Church are a new way to encourage children and young people to sing, and to help them to develop their musical abilities in a way which will stand them in good stead for the future.

Studies have shown that singing is good for children; it increases concentration, brain development and a sense of wellbeing.

The Scholarships are intended to provide children and young people aged 7-16 years with the opportunity to gain experience of singing good quality church music with an experienced choir, and to improve their general musical skills.

A Choral Scholarship will enable you/your child to:

Develop their singing ability in line with nationally-recognised standards;
Earn RSCM qualifications and other important transferrable skills;
Learn to work as part of a team;
Enjoy fellowship and fun with other choral scholars.

Each Scholar will receive an honorarium for their services (currently 300 pounds per year), and will be expected to undertake the following commitment:

Singing at the main Sunday service at St. Thomas (9.30am to 10.30am) every Sunday in term-time;
Singing at three other principal service during the church year;
Attending a weekly choir practice in term-time.

If you would like more information about the Choral Scholarship program at St. Thomas, then please contact the Vicar, Fr. Andrew Lythall- vicar@stthomasstockport.org.uk, or call the Parish Office: 0161 480 3773.

We are especially grateful to G. W. Turner (Edgeley) and St. Thomas' School for their sponsorship of the Choral Scholarship program.
